Popery as it was & as it is And Auricular confessions and Popish Nunneries 1853 first edition Hartford Ct : Silas Andrus & Son, 1853. Irish-born priest William Hogan was excommunicated in 1821, causing him to write a book in his defense. In the 1840s he emerged as an extreme anti-Catholic, hence a voice is the anti-emmigrant wave of the time. Here is an "omnibus" edition of three of his works bound together, in a fancy decorative binding. Black cloth binding, heavily blindstamped on the covers, and with fancy gilt titling on the spine. Clean text; 654 pages, marbled edges. Condition is good some staining due to age . Image page of Hogan is stuck & I do not want to pull on the page due to it delicacy. All pages intact .
