I bought this set of 5 decorative nesting bowls in a remote village in northern Thailand in 1988.
Each mango wood box is crafted by hand into spheres. Delightful and unique boxes. Intricate and exquisitely detailed on smooth, lacquered surfaces. After they are carved into the desired shape, they are coated it with lacquer. Once dried, they are polished, and another coat is applied – up to twenty times. The final layer is polished with powdered fired clay. Then the motifs are etched with a technique called lai kad (dug-out pattern) and painted.
Filled with the charm of Thai artistry.
Excellent condition for vintage items!
One of the bowls has a small part that chipped off. Please see photo for detail. Other than that, they are in amazingly good condition!
Dimensions: The largest bowl is about 5 1/8 inches in diameter and 5 " tall.
The smallest bowl is 2 7/8 inches in diameter and 1" tall.
They all fit inside each other for easy storage or shipping (see photo).
