Vintage MCM Impressionist Oil Painting Signed Original “Canal at Early Morning”

During the mid-century, we start seeing much more art of people’s travels and of worldly iconic cities, like Venice, Paris, and London to name a few. With the accelerated growth of commercial airline travel in the mid-century, many more people could travel just about anywhere in the world. More and more folks were seeing the world and painting about it.

This Vintage Impressionist Oil Painting with its lovely canalscape in browns, golds, coppers and beiges coloring the buildings shows an early morning scene in Venice. The sun has not risen above the buildings yet. The buildings with their various colored stuccos and paints are just starting to have the light bring out their colors. Perhaps that’s what the artist saw as he took in this wonderful view. The color palette he chose is clearly warm and even speaks to the age of the buildings etc. This measures 21 x 16 inches unframed.
